Original extraordinarily rare pre-war flat-head top-tension tenor banjo purchased from the second owner. This example dates from 1937, the first year of Gibson's newly designed top tension banjos, via chalk marks on back of turned resonator/rim stamp, "March XX 1939" is written on back of flange. The rim assembly is equipped with all original hardware including flange, hooks, armrest, tailpiece, thumb screws; original 20 hole flathead tonering; oval paper label fully intact and in great condition. Original neck is maple w/ "bowtie" pearl inlay pattern on rosewood board; some pitting on frets; original geared tuners w/ ivoroid tuners; heel was repaired many years ago (doweled and solid). This instrument belonged to a music professor for many years. Included in sale is original Red Line case in good condition (some scuffs and scrapes on exterior, structural repair to neck area)
