A nice example from the Norlin Era, we are pleased to have this fine wine red Les Paul, dating to January 1978. A nice robust Paul, with the smooth output we know and love, this is a great playing example that won't break the bank. In a previous life, this example was fitted with an onboard preamp, and now has a plugged hole near its volume and tone controls. Cosmetically, this one is overall in very good shape. It's two piece Maple cap is stained in the always nice Wine Red finish (also stamped inside the neck pickup cavity). The top has some mild nicks and dings throughout, but nothing remotely serious aside its previously mentioned plugged hole. The back is in good shape with some expected buckle rash and a few dings present. There are two additional holes near the strap button - for reasons we will never know. Original Patent Pending pickups are present, dated to December 1977. The mounting rings have buckled a bit, but are still holding strong. The chrome plating on the tailpiece and pickup covers are in good shape. The pickups have a well balanced, medium low output measuring 7.6k in each position. Original pots are present all dating to the first week of '78 (when the guitar was actually finished being constructed). The neck on this example is in great shape, with no nicks or dings. Slight wear is present through the clear coat along the binding, which is very typical and non problematic. The original "fretless wonder" frets are in nice shape with only very very slight wear, mostly in the first position. Original MOP trapezoid inlay is clean. The neck is straight with a functioning truss rod, yielding in nice low action that measures 4/64" in height at the twelfth fret. It has a typical 1 11/16" nut width, and a neck thickness that measures .81" thick at the first position and about .94" at the twelfth, with a nice C profile. Although stamped with a '77 serial number, it is apparent that this guitar was actually finished being built in January of '78. Original nickel Gibson stamped tulip tuners are present and function just as they should. Weighs 9.1lbs. Comes with the original red fur lined hardshell case, which is in okay condition, but has wear.
