One of the finer sounding Gibson mandolins from the finest period, this is an A4 model w/ "snakedhead" peghead shape w/ truss-rod from 1923; remarkable open/rich tone, incredible volume, applicable instrument for any style. The fully bound body features a rich burst, one-piece maple arched back, maple sides; equipped with all original hardware (tailpiece, patent stamped bridge, pickguard); some finish/play wear present. One-piece maple neck with 14" scale length, extended ebony fingerboard; "speedy" 1-1/8" wide neck with comfortable V profile; original geared tuners w/ "chocolate" ivoroid buttons; some dings and scuffs present on neck and finish wear on back of neck, expected finish checking; few cracks in bass-side binding; solidly repaired surface crack at end block area on side that occurred when tailpiece screws were over-tightened at some point
