Extremely unusual Hawaiian guitar by French musician and designer Lucien Gelas, who patented the design for double topped string instruments in 1904; like many Gelas instruments, this guitar was built by Jean Rovies in Paris; amazing tone and sustain. Oval shaped body with twin spruce tops with wood binding (areas have chipped off near edges and small top crack repair), and maple back and sides (repaired cracks on back, small side crack, finish touchup present). The neck appears to be of cedar, has a two piece heel, and a 25-11/16" scale length extended ebony fingerboard; the nut extends of the side of the fingerboard, as seen in other Gelas guitars; tuners appear to be later.
