The Portuguese cavaquinho is a small string instrument (like the ukulele) of the European guitar family with four wires or gut strings. It is also called machinbo, machim, machete (Portuguese islands’ and Brazilian designation), manchete or marchete, braguinha or braguinho and cavaco. This instrument first went to Madeira (in 1854, to become the braguinha) and then on to Hawaii (in 1879) to become the ukulele. This is a modern example from Folk Reps, featuring a Solid Spruce with African Blackwood top, walnut back and sides, with a maple neck. This example is gently used with little to no wear. Includes HSC.
