A New York classic, we are always glad to have a nicely made Epiphone here at the shop. This original Masterbilt Zenith model is a great contender for collectors and players alike. It's 16.5" lower bout provides a nice round bass response that isn't overwhelming, while maintaining a traditional acoustic arch top snap we all love for jazz & swing. This example has had some necessary upkeep including a replacement hanger tailpiece, and pickguard, but it still has its original Grover tuners. Two parallel top cracks are visible from the top, one running along the center seam with two cleats, the other simply sealed a few inches away. Cosmetically otherwise, the guitar is in good condition with only typical checking and some light nicks. The finish appears to have been touched up a bit near the treble side upper bout. The binding is in good shape but has shrunk a little, but not broken anywhere. The arch to the top and the back are strong. The tailpiece rests very close to the top, but does not make contact or inhibit the vibration. The thumbscrews to the saddle are currently maxed out, but its action is a very reasonable 6/64" at the twelfth fret on both the first and sixth string. The neck profile is comfortable with a bit of heft, having a very mild V type shape to it, which measures about .94" thick at the first fret and 1.01" at the tenth before the heel curvature. It has a 1 5/8" nut width. There is some evidence that this guitar had a neck set done. This model does not have a truss rod, so its neck condition and action are the first inclination, but finish separation along the heel furthers this. The heel cap has also become separated which is known to happen after a neck set - that said, it is likely this guitar will stay in good health for a long time. It appears to have the original frets which are in good shape and likely had a level crown & polish in recent history, as they show no real wear while being a bit low. Comes with the original blue interior lined Epiphone case!
