A beautifully crafted and gloriously aged example, replete with gold plating and some of the finest metal engraving we have ever seen. The neck appears to be curly walnut, and has a delightful "gentle V" profile for the first five frets only. The resonator is convex, and boasts a remarkable burled veneer with wood bindings. (The mechanism by which the resonator attaches to the pot is a feat in British engineering). All of the hardware is original, and executed to perfection. Peripherals such as the arm-rest and tailpiece are heavy-duty and highly functional, and the scalloped tension hoop is oriented in such a way as to suggest a flange when viewed head-on. Scale length: 27 and 1/2"; pot size: 11". An extraordinarily RARE example of a classical banjo from this noted English maker; there is light forward relief present but banjo plays well. This special banjo is from the collection of Akira Tsumura and featured on page 126 of his book Banjo-The Tsumura Collection (1920-1940).
