Bay State Model 317

  • Very Good + Condition
  • Year: 1890
  • No Case
  • Serial #: 22

An excellent player grade Boston banjo - well maintained with some needed parts. 11" spun over rim is in good shape with typical pitting on the outside. Various hooks have been replaced, but all work as they should. 25" scale length plays well, and is set up currently with nylon strings. A good neck angle with only a small shim at the neck joint to the rim. Dowel is stamped John Haynes & Co Boston, along with the Bay State logo and its 317 model number. The neck is straight, with a comfortable subtle V profile. There is some mild fret wear, but non-problematically in its current condition. The ebony fingerboard is in good shape with nice, simple abalone inlay. The tuners have been replaced with modern planetary copies. More recent No Knot tailpiece, and compensated bridge. A sweet sounding player, ready for its next gig.
