This enormous, 57 " long 22" girth, ebony or other hardwood "horn" is purportedly from the East African tribal people referred to as the Massai. It was used by nomads for communicating over long distances. The closed end is carved as a primitive head with long neck and collar. There is a single mouthpiece hole. This rendition of a Massai tribe member is done in the image of a woman. There are some very old metal reinforcements and ornamentations which are tacked in a few spots, but the integrity of the ancient piece is uncompromised. This is a museum quality piece that is an exciting addition to our collection. It weighs approximately 50 pounds!!!
