A rare signed example from W. George Rush, who was perhaps a New York distributer or teacher. Based on the peghead shape, inlay pattern, and presence of a tone ring, we believe this banjo was made by James Morrison of New York who often produced banjos for order. 12" spun-over wood rim with early independent tonering. Large 29" scale mahogany neck with typical Morrison inlays, unusual pearl square underneath 19th fret with marquetry border. Outfitted with friction tuners, later neck brace. Expected wear present, currently in the shop for setup.
