Baroque is a term to define the chronology of music. "Baroque" refers to 17th and 18th century music, this also implies a type of stylistic composing for the time. These guitars are generally tuned in double course strings, sometimes even triple course, referring to the amount of strings grouped together, usually tuned in unison, or octaves. This is familiar in lutes and vihuela, both ancestors of the guitar.
This guitar was designed by luthier Zachary Taylor, who had studied exact measurements of original baroque guitars from the Ashmolean Museum in Oxford for the sole purpose of bringing us a great representation of what the guitars were like from this period.
We have here the Voboam model guitar designed by Zachary Taylor based on a famous instrument made by Alexandre Voboam, a famous 17th century French Luthier. 5 Double coursed strings resonate a spruce top against a sheesham (indian rosewood) back and sides. The back has a stripe of lace wood down the center for decoration, and the top features a decorative laser etched sound hole, copying the intricate wood working from the original, with exact specificity.
A wonderful addition to any musicians collection. A wonderful tone that has to be heard to understand complex in it's originality, and yet familiar stylistically.
