A jazz guitarist's dream...Guild's Artist Award Model was first introduced in 1956 as the Johnny Smith but was renamed in 1961. This example dates from 1964 and features a 17" all spruce archtop, supported by figured maple back and sides, all in original sunburst. The neck is 24 3/4" scale with a multi-bound ebony fingerboard, pearl block inlay with abalone v insert, and a large bound headstock featuring "Artist Award Model" engraved on a large pearl inlay. Electronics have been replaced with a period DeArmond pickup and pickguard has been re-worked to resemble the functionality and look of Guild's original all-in-one design. Original hardware including gold-plated Grover Imperial tuners, and harp tailpiece with engravings. Cosmetically, this Guild has the expected dings and scratches, most notably on the back of the neck, and some binding has shrunk on the back. The original hard-case, also in excellent condition, is included in the sale.
