The Whyte Laydie banjos by the A. C. Fairbanks Company of Boston came in three sizes. The "professional" size was the model with the largest rim measuring 11-13/16" in diameter. The scale on these banjos is a whopping 28" long. This sometimes puts them out of favor with some "Old Timey" players as being a bit cumbersome. However there is nothing lacking in the sound. It is both powerful and sonorous with the snap and the bass to cut through in a band setting. If you can handle the scale, this banjo will be your instrument of choice.
