From the banjo hay days of the 1890s comes this electric model. The electric was Fairbanks flagship model the the scallopped metal tonering that was introduced in 1890. The addition of the ring to the rim gave the banjo its "electrifying" sound.... this eventually evolved into the fabled "Whyte Laydie" model. This particular model features a mahogany neck with inlayed pearl "tear drops" in the fingerboard and peghead. What sets this particular banjo apart is the unusual rim and neck configuration. The rim is full spun over and measures 11-1/2" in diameter and the neck has a 26-1/2" scale. This is a fine old player suitable for many styles and priced considerably lower than many banjos from the shops of contemporary builders. There are several bent spots on the tension hoop from ill fitting heads but now it plays perfectly with a straight neck and Champion tuners.
