A very simple frailing or classical banjo by Boston firm A.C. Fairbanks. The Special No. 2 is a "no-frills" player's grade banjo featuring an 11" spun over rim, and mahogany neck with a 26" scale length. Original friction pegs have been "upgraded" to period inlaid Maltese cross ivoroid friction pegs, the tailpiece has been similarly upgraded with a period ivoroid example with 1886 patent stamp. Reproduction cobra hooks and nuts, the ebony heel cap has been replaced. This banjo retains its original Fairbanks dowel stick stamp. Setup currently with a skin head.
